About this site

The Traditional Music Digital Library is a database that collects the world's traditional music in high-definition video.
In order to convey the character of traditional music in an easily understandable way, we've not only filmed performances of traditional music by professional players, but also included spoken content in which things like each instrument's unique playing techniques, notation systems, and so on are explained on camera.
In 2009, we focused on traditional Japanese music, called hōgaku, and recorded performances and talks on six traditional Japanese instruments under the supervision of the "Institute for Traditional Music in the Modern Age" at Senzoku Academy College of Music.
We hope you enjoy the deeply nuanced world of hōgaku.
